Letter to the Editor

The Free Press is a weekly student–run newspaper serving the University of Southern Maine. The Free Press is paid for in part with by the Student Activity Fee and additionally through advertising sales.

The Free Press reaches an estimated 11,000 students of USM, their friends and families on the Portland, Gorham and Lewsiton/Auburn campuses as well as in the greater Portland and Lewiston/Aubern communities.

We publish on Mondays throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, approximately 22 issues per year. Each issue has a circulation of 3500 copies and is distributed to over 55 locations on Portland and Gorham campus as well as at Lewsiton/Auburn College and within the surrounding communities.

• We have a gender-neutral language policy. • We reserve the right to edit or refuse all materials submitted or solicited for publication. • Columns do not reflect the opinions of The Free Press or its staff. • Guest commentaries are sometimes solicited or accepted from members of the USM community; they may not exceed 750 words. • One copy of The Free Press is available free of charge. Up to 10 additional copies are available for 25 cents each at the office of The Free Press, 92 Bedford St., Portland, Maine. • We reserve the right to reject advertising, We will not accept discriminatory ads. • We welcome letters to the editor. They must be submitted electronically, include the author’s full name, school year or relationship to USM, phone number for verification and may not exceed 350 words without prior approval from the Executive Editor. • The deadline for all submissions is Thursday at 4 p.m. preceding the week of publication.
